CHATTANOOGA---It's officially here. The 2022 FCS football season is underway with the first major preseason poll released Wednesday by HERO Sports. It places the Chattanooga Mocs at No. 16.

The Mocs are coming off a 6-5 campaign which looks to improve this fall. Hopes for a Southern Conference Championship fell late in the year, but it was a 2021 campaign that the team knew was not far from being extremely memorable.
 
"I don't get too excited about preseason polls," Coach Rusty Wright explained. "But I do think it shows people respect what we're doing here as a football team. National expectations are there.
 
"This is a really good group. Competition will be there all over the field. We look forward to getting started with them in a few weeks."
 
Chattanooga and ETSU (5) are the only SoCon teams ranked with Mercer receiving votes. North Dakota State got the No. 1 slot.
