CHATTANOOGA.---Stop the presses! STOP THE PRESSES! Big news coming out of Chattanooga late Saturday evening changes this story up a bit.
We started with a heart-warming feel as junior Dorota Zalewska hopped in the van to head just up the road to the NCAA Franklin Regionals. She opens play Monday in the NCAA Women's Golf Tournament.
But then news came from out west. Junior Esme Hamilton answered the NCAA's call taking a spot in the Albuquerque Regionals. She headed to the airport in the wee hours this morning hoping to get to the Land of Enchantment in time for a practice round this afternoon. Exciting times for the Nottingham, England native as she too starts her journey Monday morning. Albeit more than 1,200 miles apart, although it is a direct shot along I-40 with barely a dogleg along the way.
Both Mocs play three rounds in three days working toward the goal of joining each other May 20-25 in Scottdale Ariz., at the NCAA Championships. To do that, Zalewska and Hamilton need to be one of the top two finishers not on one of the four advancing teams from their sites.
It's an interesting mix. Zalewska has three tournaments of experience at the Vanderbilt Legends Club North Course. Hamilton has read the name Championship Club at UNM. They are the fourth and fifth qualifiers and first since 2019 when SoCon Champion Monica San Juan '19 earned an at large berth.
Should either or both move forward to compete for medalist honors in Arizona, they'll join the 2009 team in program history. That group, comprised of Emma de Groot '11, Maria Salinas, Christine Wolf '11, Maria Juliana Loza '12 and Moa Duf, advanced from the Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio in Chattanooga's first team berth in the tournament.
Check out this week's media availability with Dori and Coach Colette Murray from Thursday more than 48 hours prior to Hamilton's exciting invite.
Live scoring and pairings links, when available, are above for both sites along with detailed notes packages.
