Postgame Quotes
Rusty Wright, Head Coach
Opening statement after 41-14 win over UNA.
"We have plenty we can get better at, there's no question about that. But I promise you, I'd much rather be here getting better at it after a win than after a loss. So, we have a lot of stuff we have to figure out. It looked about like, Thursday's practice when we had to start over, you know. And that's a thing. We still have some young guys that still have growing to do, plenty of growing. And that's the good thing about it, we figured out a way to win and we still have plenty of growing."
Â
On specific area of improvement.
"We got to figure out a way to run the football just a little better. That's in part of there's a lot of people down there, you know, they're going to force us to throw the football and whatever. I think we're getting to a point where we feel comfortable throwing it out there and doing some things."
Â
On the core of the team being young.
"I mean, we have got so many guys playing for us for the first time in different spots, besides on defense, but in some areas on defense. It's three games, I mean it's still kind of new for some of them and I think we have to continue to work at it, figure it out, go from there. But I'm excited for that fact though. That's why I get more excited for practice most time than I do during the games because I think there's so many things we can work on to get better in so many ways, we can get better.
Â
Preston Hutchinson, Sr.-QB
On getting that next score to seal the game.
"We needed it. I feel like we didn't have any three-and-outs, we just kept stalling. We made some penalties and I had a bad pick. We really needed that next touchdown to seal the game.
Ty Boeck helped us on special teams, so that was big, and we figured it out."
Â
On the wide receivers' improvements.
"I do, I really do. I think there's a lot of room for improvement too. Improvement in being on the same page with me, me being on the same page with them. But, I've seen a lot of improvement."
Â
On the offensive line play.
"I have felt comfortable all season. I've been super comfortable behind them. I absolutely love how they block [on screen passes]."
Â
Ty Boeck, Sr.-LB
On returning the blocked punt.
"We blocked the first one the same way, so I figured I would put myself in a good position. Luckily, the ball squirted out right in front of me and gave me a great opportunity. Right place, right time."
Â
On matching up with UNA.
"They had some success in the passing game in the first half. We had to make some adjustments and get a couple guys right defensively. After that, we were good to go."
Â
On next week's matchup at Illinois.
"I'm excited for the chance to play a Big Ten team. You have to perform well against teams of that caliber. This group doesn't approach it like we're going to play an FBS team. We approach it like we would any other game. We'll watch film and see what we did right and what needs corrected. We're excited."
