Volleyball Closes Out GATA Challenge With 3-1 Loss to Georgia Southern

The Chattanooga Mocs volleyball team wrapped up the bulk of its non-conference schedule against its former SoCon rival.

STATESBORO, Ga. --- The Chattanooga Mocs volleyball team battled back after falling behind 2-0 before eventually falling 3-1 (25-20, 25-16, 21-25, 25-21) to Georgia Southern on the final day of the GATA Challenge in Statesboro, Ga.

Following the loss, Chattanooga finishes the non-conference heavy portion of its schedule with a 5-9 record. Georgia Southern improved to 8-4 following the victory.

"We played much better volleyball today," said head coach Julie Torbett. "It was nice to see Halle [Olson] bounce back and Natalie [Tyson] and Paige [Gallentine] were solid all weekend."

After falling behind 2-0, Chattanooga extended the match behind a 25-21 win in the third set after limiting the Eagles to a match-low .051 attacking percentage. UTC held a late lead in the fourth set, 21-20, before Georgia Southern finished the match on a 4-1 run.

Paige Gallentine, who was named to the GATA Challenge All-Tournament Team, impressed yet again on the defensive side of things and led the entire match with 28 digs. She finished the weekend with 20+ digs in all three matches and has accomplished the feat in four of the last five matches.

Halle Olson led the Chattanooga offense with a team-high 13 kills at a .188 clip while Natalie Tyson posted another double-digit kill performance with 10. Tyson extended her kill-dig, double-double streak to eight matches after finishing the contest on Saturday with 11.

Kate Neill added six kills on offense and racked up five block assists at the net in addition to a similar performance from Chloe Bryan who ended with seven kills and four block assists. Setter Elaine Redman racked up 29 assists while fellow setter Sophia Bossong posted 17 digs to aid the Mocs effort.
