CHATTANOOGA---Another week, another award. Ho hum, is this what it's come to? The 9th-ranked Chattanooga Mocs rolled to a 41-14 Homecoming win over North Alabama Saturday night in Finley Stadium. Five of the Mocs six touchdowns came from Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Week
Preston Hutchinson's arm and legs.
Â
had two rushing and three passing touchdowns. That's the most since five by
Alejandro Bennifield against Mercer on Oct. 8, 2016 (1 rush/4 pass). The last QB with multiple of both resulting in five or more scores?
Jacob Huesman vs. VMI on Oct. 4, 2014 (2 rush/4 pass).
Â
It marks back-to-back games with two rush TDs for Hutchinson. He's also the first to throw for 300 yards since 347 by
Nick Tiano at The Citadel on Sept. 8, 2018. One more back-to-back note...he's the OPOTW two weeks running.
Â
He's helped lead the Chattanooga contingent to a 3-0 start, the first since 2018 (4-0) and 15th all-time. That perfect record is on the line in a short preparation week squaring off with Illinois (2-1) Thursday night in Champaign. It's the first Big Ten opponent (member at the time of kickoff) in school history.
Â
It's truly an odd week compressing six days of preparation into three.
Â
"Now, it is what it is," Coach
Rusty Wright began after Monday morning's practice. "I mean we're not the only ones going through it this week. I think there's three or four other games. Guys played on Saturday and now play on Thursday night. Just have to adjust, be good mentally and be able to focus and prepare."
Â
Coach Wright joins "Voice of the Mocs" Jim Reynolds on Chat with the Mocs tonight at Walk-On's Sports Bistreaux on Broad Street in Chattanooga's Aquarium District. It can be listened to from 7-8 p.m., on 96.1 FM/1070 AM in the Scenic City area or
access it online here.
Â
Junior edge
Jay Person is joining them as well. He also had thoughts on the Power 5 challenge ahead.
Â
"It's a big challenge for us," he explained. "Especially in a short week. It's really just getting our mental down. Really just getting the little stuff down, the technique and just be mentally sound out there."
