CHATTANOOGA --- The Chattanooga Mocs volleyball team opened the Southern Conference slate with its second victory of the weekend after sweeping league preseason favorite Wofford 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-20) on Saturday afternoon inside Maclellan Gymnasium.

Following the win, Chattanooga starts the season 2-0 in league play and ups its overall record to 7-9. The Mocs also improve to 20-2 all-time against the Terriers inside Maclellan Gym. Wofford falls to 0-2 in SoCon action and 8-6 overall after the loss.

"I am so proud of the team. They executed a game plan and played three sets of volleyball at a consistent level," said head coach Julie Torbett.

"We got production from multiple players. Chloe Bryan did a great job scoring, blocking and picking up tips and Sophia Bossong also scored some key points for us."

The Mocs controlled much of the match from start to finish and never trailed by as much as three points (12-9 in the third) in all three sets. UTC posted a 25-22 victory in the first after scoring four of the final six points to take a 1-0 lead. They would clinch the match with similar 25-20 decisions in the second and the third.

The straight-set victory is the second of such for UTC this season after defeating Southern Indiana 3-0 in the Chattanooga Classic two weeks ago. It's also the second-straight sweep over Wofford following last year's 3-0 tally in the regular season finale inside the Mac.

Chattanooga featured four players with six or more kills each with Natalie Tyson leading the way with eight. Kate Neill and Halle Olson finished with seven while Aleya Kennedy posted six. The Mocs led an efficient attack and out-hit the Terriers by a .180 to .097 margin.

As previously mentioned by coach Torbett, Bryan and Bossong turned in crucial performances to help lift the Mocs. Bryan finished the match with four kills (.250) and a team-high five blocks (two solo, three assists) while Bossong added a pair of timely kills and 10 digs.

Paige Gallentine once again led with a match-high in digs after posting 16 in the three sets. It marks the 14th-straight match with 14 or more digs for the libero. Defensively at the net, Kennedy added four blocks (one solo, three assists), Neill posted three (one solo, two assists) and Olson chipped in with two (two assists) to help amass 10.0 total team blocks.

Elaine Redman tied for a match-high 26 assists and recorded a versatile stat line of three kills, an ace, six digs and a solo block. The local product has recorded at least 26 assists, one kill and one service ace in five of the last seven matches.
