CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The Chattanooga men's and women's cross country teams will hit the road for the 21st annual Live in Lou Cross Country Classic Saturday morning in at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer Park in Louisville, Ky.
Â
The meet is a favorite for the Mocs where many post personal best times.
Â
"The kids love racing at Louisville," Mocs head coach Andy Meyer said. "It is a great course with national caliber competition. The races are so fast, runners get pulled along into great times. Many of our kids will set or have set their best race times here.
Â
"Many of the teams we compete against will be nationally ranked. Also, several teams in the SoCon will be here so we get a view of their potential and where we are before the conference meet."
Â
The women's Gold 5-kilometer race is set to begin at 10:15 a.m. There will be 44 teams in the race including SoCon foes Western Carolina, Samford, Furman and ETSU. The Mocs will also compete against Tennessee, South Carolina, Louisville, Tulane, Kentucky and Georgia.
Â
The men will be in the Blue race and start the 8K at 10:45 a.m. The Mocs will get a look at SoCon competition with Mercer, Samford and Western Carolina also in the Blue group. UTC will also face off against College of Charleston, Marshall, Kennesaw State, Morehead State, North Alabama, Tennessee Tech, UT Martin and Western Kentucky.
Â
"We have had a very hard training cycle since Huntsville and the kids will have an extra day of rest going into this race to help them fully recover and put forth a great effort," Meyer said. "The fields here are huge and will be the biggest race many of our kids race in their cross country careers."
Â
The link for live scoring will be available online at GoMocs.com on the cross country schedule page.
Â
"As far as our sport goes Louisville is one of the most exciting and best atmospheres for running the kids get to experience," Meyer concluded.
