CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The Chattanooga women's soccer team will play host to North Alabama Thursday, September 8 at the UTC Sports Complex. This will be the first of two home games this week. The Mocs will host Belmont Sunday afternoon.

MOCS vs. NORTH ALABAMA
Chattanooga leads the young series by a 4-0 margin. UTC earned three shutouts before giving up its first goal to the Lions last season in a 3-1 victory. This will be the third match played in Chattanooga. The last time the two met in the Scenic City was in the spring of 2021 and was the only non-conference game for UTC in the COVID-delayed season.

ABOUT CHATTANOOGA
The Mocs are on a three-game unbeaten streak with a win over Austin Peay and a pair of ties against Georgia State and Tennessee Tech. Mackenzie Smith, Clarissa Salinas and Caroline Richvalsky each have a team-best three points. Birna Johannsdottir has the Mocs' sole game-winning goal, scoring the first against the Lady Govs. Caroline Ekern entered the starting lineup at Georgia State and is unbeaten through three games at 1-0-2.

ABOUT NORTH ALABAMA
The Lions are unbeaten this season with wins over Jackson State (2-0), Belmont (2-0) and Arkansas-Pine Bluff (5-0). UNA battled Southern Indiana and Troy to a scoreless draw and finished 1-1 against South Alabama. Alice Bussey has a team-best four goals and Izzi Gurney has three goals and one assist on the season making her second on the team in scoring and the only other player with multiple goals. Payton Yates is 3-0-3 on the year with five shutouts, 17 savse and a 0.944 save percentage. She has a 0.17 goals against average.

RICHVALSKY JOINS TEAM LEADERS
Freshman Caroline Richvalsky scored her first collegiate goal early in the second half against Tennessee Tech. A late goal from the Golden Eagles proved to be the equalizer in a 1-1 draw at home.

MACKENZIE SMITH NAMED TSWA PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Junior Mackenzie Smith was named the Women's Soccer Player of the Week by the Tennessee Sports Writers Association following the Mocs 1-0-1 record in the second week. She assisted on the Mocs second goal in a 3-0 win at Austin Peay and then scored the final goal.

THREE SCORE IN MOCS WIN AT AUSTIN PEAY
The Mocs got scoring from three different players in a 3-0 win at Austin Peay. Birna Johannsdottir scored her first goal since transferring to UTC. Kelly Tuerff and Mackenzie Smith added goals in the late stages of the match.

FRESHMEN ON GAME-TYING GOAL
Caroline Richvalsky's shot late in the game at Georgia State may not have found its intended target, but it led to a goal by classmate Clarissa Salinas who was there to pick up the deflection. The goal was the first of Salinas' collegiate career and tied the match for UTC.

EKERN EARNS STARTING SPOT IN GOAL
Freshman Caroline Ekern entered the Mocs match against Eastern Kentucky in the first half and pulled in four saves in 65 minutes in her collegiate debut. That led to her making her first start as a Moc at Georgia State. She played the full 90 and made two saves while giving up one goal. She has three starts under her belt and remains unbeaten at 1-0-2.

SHAW NAMED TO USLW NATIONAL TEAM OF THE YEAR
Senior Maggie Shaw was named to the USLW League National Team of the Year - Second Team for her play with the Chattanooga Lady Red Wolves.
