Postgame Quotes - Samford

2022-23 Chattanooga Mocs Men's Basketball
Game 19 – at Samford
January 14 – Pete Hanna Center – Birmingham, Ala.
Postgame Notes

Dan Earl, Head Coach
Opening thoughts after 75-74 loss at Samford.
"That was a tough one, obviously. In many ways, we played very well in the first half. And then we felt an intangible shift in the second half. We have to be tougher with the basketball and not turn it over. We can't be as passive and have to keep attacking. Give credit to Samford, they were tough and started making shots. They started pressing with more aggression and we couldn't handle it."

On what changed in the second half.
"We obviously missed some shots and they turned us over a bit, but we got pretty stagnant. They ramped up their physicality and aggression on the ball. We have to look at that and see if we can get more downhill drives and back door cuts to open that up. We just got too stagnant."

On the final shot/play.
"There's five seconds and so you think you typically have a dribble per second, so we try to push the ball and get downhill and then make the best decision possible. We have a play to turn to that we practice all the time. We'll take that shot with five seconds left, I thought it was fairly open. I'll take him shooting that shot. He's made it before and it was just short today."

On moving forward.
"You have to have a short memory. You're angry right now and you try to take it out on the next opponent. In basketball, the next one comes quick. We'll sit on the bus and think about things, how you can do things better, individually, as a coaching staff, myself. We'll watch the film and try to get better. Things like that happen. It's a long season and we'll keep plugging away."
