Mocs Soccer on the Road at UNCG Sunday

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The Chattanooga Mocs soccer team hits the road Sunday for one of two final regular season matches. The Mocs will take on UNCG in an afternoon tilt in Greensboro, N.C.

DYK? For just the fourth time in program history and first since 2004, the Mocs reached double-digit wins. Ten wins so far this season is tied for second-most in program history. In 2004, UTC won 12 matches.
 
LAST TIME THEY MET
The Mocs and Spartans met in Chattanooga in the quarterfinal round of the Southern Conference Tournament. UTC came away with a 1-0 victory in the regular season but fell 2-1 in a double overtime match. Without the Golden Goal, the teams played both overtime periods and UNCG scored the game winner in the 97th minute. UNCG scored the first goal of the match in the 13th minute off a corner kick. Caroline Richvalsky scored the equalizer in the 66th. UTC outshot the Spartans 14-4 with a 4-3 shots on goal edge., 
 
LAST TIME OUT
Chattanooga 2, Wofford 0 - Chattanooga, Tenn.
The Mocs win over Wofford earned UTC its fourth-ever double-digit win season and first since 2004 when the Mocs posted a program-record 12 wins. Clarissa Salinas fed Caroline Richvalsky who scored her team-leading seventh goal of the season. That would prove to be the game winner as UTC keeper Caroline Ekern earned her fourth shutout of the season. A handball call in the box led to a penalty kick for Chattanooga. Birna Johannsdottir lined up the shot for the Mocs second goal before 18 minutes had passed. UTC outshot Wofford 19-8 and had a 10-2 shots on goal advantage.
 
ABOUT CHATTANOOGA (10-4-1, 4-3-1 SoCon)
The Mocs earned back-to-back shutouts against VMI (2-0) and Wofford (2-0) to close out the home slate. UTC now has four shutouts and reached double-digit wins for the first time since 2004 and just the fourth time in program history. The Mocs have 25 goals, tied for ninth in a season in program history and 24 assists which is tied for third. Chattanooga has allowed 14 goals which is second fewest in a season and fewest allowed in a full season (5 allowed in Spring 2021 COVID season). Caroline Richvalsky and Birna Johannsdottir lead the team with 17 points each. Richvalsky has a team-best seven goals while Johannsdottir has a team-high seven assists. Mackenzie Smith has 10 points, third on the team, with four goals and two assists. Richvalsky has a team-best four game winning goals, Johannsdottir has three and three more have one each. Caroline Ekern has tied her mark for wins in a season with eight and recorded four shutouts.
 
ABOUT UNCG (5-9-2, 2-4-1 SoCon)
The Spartans have wins in the SoCon against The Citadel (2-1) and Furman (1-0), both at home. UNCG has five shutouts this season with one in league play. Caroline Woods leads the team with three of UNCG's 13 goals this season. She has a team-high seven points. Ava Kiss and Mel Herrera, Taylor Mentzer each have two goals. Hayden Erck, Claire Esse, Bailey Gourdine and Ryen Ortiz each have two assists. Emma Malone has started 15 of 16 games and recorded 45 saves with 19 goals against. She has two shutouts and combined on two more.
