CHATTANOOGA---The Chattanooga Mocs are on week nine of nine in the 2023 schedule. Two Southern Conference games await before the off week and regular season finale at Alabama. Those last three weeks are interesting and all, but this group is focused squarely on the next one.

The Mocs travel to VMI Saturday for their final SoCon road test. The last two visits to the Lexington post have brought disappointment with a 31-24 season-ending loss in 2019 and 37-34 overtime heartbreaker in 2021. The program is 8-6 all-time visiting the Keydets, 7-6 in SoCon matchups.

It's a matchup that has all the SoCon Championship implications. Just a single game separates 1-3 in the SoCon standings: Furman (4-0), UTC (5-1) & Western Carolina (3-1). Mercer (3-2) & VMI (2-2) are lurking with the Keydets facing all three leaders. The Bears are at the Catamounts this weekend.

But this is about this week. Coach Rusty Wright opened the proceedings discussing the difficulties of a long bus ride and finding the "juice" on a relatively empty visitor side of the field compared to the raucous corps of Keydets that await. In his description, it brought memories of monochrome vs. stereo.

He was followed by linebacker Kobe Joseph and tight end Camden Overton. Joseph was quickly queried about his Harvard background as well as his impressive performance the last two weeks starting for an injured Alex Mitchell. Overton was grilled about his speed and how the Mocs will create their own juice this week.
