Kobe Joseph

Linebacker Kobe Joseph earned Southern Conference Player of the Week honor leading the Chattanooga Mocs to a win at VMI.

SATURDAY GAME STORY | TICKETS

CHATTANOOGA---It's one for all the marbles Saturday at Finley Stadium. The 13th-ranked Chattanooga Mocs host No. 2 Furman in a fight for the Southern Conference Championship. It would be the eighth for the Mocs, first since 2015, or 15th for the Paladins, first since 2018.

To be fair, the winner clinches a share of the title. The Mocs are playing their eighth and final league game, while Furman still has VMI and Wofford on the schedule. So even the loser Saturday still has hope for a trophy, while the winner cinches the league's automatic bid into the FCS Playoffs.

One last look back at the win at VMI Saturday with an eye on defense. Junior linebacker Kobe Joseph is this week's SoCon Defensive Player of the Week with a strong effort in his third consecutive start.

Joseph collected a game-high 13 tackles with one for loss and a first quarter interception. The pick, his second of the season, provided the offense with a short field at the VMI 26-yard line. They took full advantage scoring four plays later for a 14-0 lead. The 13 stops are a season high by a Moc defender.

"Kobe stayed ready," Coach Rusty Wright shared. "What he did this weekend is what we ask all these guys to do and that's always be ready. Prepare and put yourself in position to be successful and execute.

"He gives himself a chance to be a good player with the work he does every day. Then it's about playing hard and playing the right way."

Kobe was joined by two others in the POTW list. Mercer QB Carter Peevy was Offensive Player of the Week, while Furman kicker Ian Williams claimed Special Teams.

There's a lot going on at Finley Stadium. Senior Day, Band Day, ticket deals and most importantly, Veterans & Salute to Heroes Day. All military personnel, active or not, receive a free general admission ticket to the game. That goes for first responders too.

Fans can also save $6 by purchasing tickets in advance on GoMocs.com using the promo code "FORTHECITY". Tickets purchased on gameday are $15 plus a $2 fee. From now until 11L59 p.m., Friday night, it's $10 plus a $1 processing fee.

SoCon Title Hopes
Mercer's win at Western Carolina means four teams still have hopes for at least a share of the conference title. The Bears (4-2) and Catamounts (3-2) need a lot to happen to make the dream a reality. This week's league schedule:
Furman at Chattanooga, 1:30 p.m.
VMI at ETSU, 1 p.m.
Mercer at The Citadel, 2 p.m.
Western Carolina at Wofford, 3 p.m.
