Postgame Quotes

Dan Earl, Head Coach

On getting back into the win column after 72-56 win over SEMO.
"In previous games, we've been kind of passive on defense – not using our arms and hands and being active on defense. I thought we did a much better job at that, other than letting [Adam] Larson get off some threes. So, it was a very good game defensively; still a lot to learn offensively. We're not a finished product, but we did enough to get the win. I think Sean Cusano came in and gave some valuable minutes, even though it doesn't show up in the stat sheet. Rudy Fitzgibbons – same thing, valuable minutes. Those two guys came in and positively impacted the game and when we can get that done, we'll have a chance to be a successful team."

On Sean Cusano's development.
"I was just proud of him, he checked into his first Division I basketball game. He probably had [some] nerves there. You want to play and then you check in and go, 'Whoa, this thing's moving fast.' He stuck his nose in. You could see, they were trying to post him right away, but he did a really good job of getting his hands on the ball and he played really good post defense. That might come quicker than the offensive end, but he's a real cerebral player. He's smart and doesn't try to do too much, so we're looking forward to trying to get him some more minutes as we roll forward."

On the improvement from Friday's loss.
"When you watch the tape of Friday, for 32 minutes we played some pretty decent basketball. The wheels just fell off the last eight minutes. We couldn't stop the bleeding or get a stop and obviously [number] 13 got going. It's a better feeling certainly, getting the win, and there's a lot to learn from Friday. Truthfully, there's a lot to learn from [today] as well, but it's better to get a win against a dangerous team in SEMO."

Jan Zidek, Gr.-F
On his efficiency and aggressiveness today.
"I just let the game come to me. Those shots were open for me there, and SEMO is an aggressive team, so if you have control and try to find the right shots, that's how you beat them. Against an aggressive team, you want to play aggressive but under control at the same time. I like the fact that I got 10 free throws today; I've got to work on my free throws."

On playing with Sam Alexis.
"As the season goes along, we'll get more games and more experience, and we'll get better at playing together. Having that size, with me and him both on the court, helps our team a lot. Sam's been doing a great job for us this season; [he's been] amazing on the boards and scoring the basketball as well as being a good defensive player."

On the size and talent in the front court.
"It's definitely a nightmare for a lot of teams. The only thing is, we have to learn, with this size, how to play efficiently together. Sometimes when you have a lot of size on the court, it can be a little confusing for some players, but as long as we get better playing together, having this size is a nightmare for other teams."
