Postgame Quotes
Â
Dan Earl, Head Coach
Opening statement after 79-58 loss at Furman.
"Obviously, a tough night for us. Credit to Furman, they had 21 offensive rebounds. That can't happen. They were more physical than us, played with more confidence than us. We kept a fight that cut it to eight or so, but you can't dig a hole that big especially to a team like Furman. We ran out of gas at the end. Tough night all the way around."
Â
On the success of the second-half run.
"We challenged the guys in the timeout and said we're going to be more physical defensively, we're going to drive the ball at them downhill, and just be physical. Hopefully we can bottle that up and teach from the good. We went six minutes where we scored four points. We can't have these droughts or lulls during the game."
Â
On what needs to change.
"We have to get better defensively and have that be a staple for us. One of the tough things is, when we play well offensively, it seems our game as a whole is better. When we hit these droughts, it affects us on the defensive end. I don't think we settled for bad shots tonight, we missed some point-blank layups tonight. We have to finish, but we weren't settling. Both sides of the ball, we have to be better."
Â
Jamaal Walker, RSo.-G
On playing without Jake Stephens.
"Coach and my teammates have been trying to drive and make the defense collapse on us. Jake was always our big man down there. We're not necessarily trying to score, we're trying to make the defense collapse and look for open guys."
Â
On stringing consistency.
"We gave up way too many offensive rebounds and they just wanted it way more than us tonight. We have to go back as a team and see where we aren't clicking. We've had a lot of close games. We need to be more consistent."
