CHATTANOOGA --- The Chattanooga Mocs women's tennis team earned its third-straight victory and second-straight shutout after downing in-state foe Tennessee State on Friday afternoon inside the Strang-Voges Tennis Center on the campus of The McCallie School.
 
Following the Mocs third-straight win, the team improves to 6-1 on the season. The team has now started the season 6-1 (or better) for the second time under current head coach Chad Camper. Tennessee State fell to 0-7 on the year after the loss.
 
"Our team had to really fight today," said Camper following the match. "I am proud of our preparedness and professionalism in today's win."
 
Chattanooga opened the match with a 1-0 lead after sweeping all three doubles matchups. The duo of Nicole Abel and Pippa Bosman clinched the doubles point with a 6-1 win at No. 2 after the No. 3 pairing of Lucia Garrigues-Melendez and Rozalie Dohnalova captured a 6-1 victory to kick things off.
 
In singles, five of the six matches were decided in straight sets in favor of the Mocs with the lone three-set match coming at No. 3 singles featuring Caroline Gibbens. Gibbens, the SoCon Player of the Month in January, fought back after falling behind in the super tie-break third set to pull off  a 6-3, 3-6, 10-8 decision and complete the clean team sweep.
 
Chattanooga (6-1) quickly returns to action with its first outdoor home match of the season tomorrow, Saturday, February 18, when the squad hosts Murray State. First serve at the UTC Tennis Center is set for 2 p.m. ET.
