CHATTANOOGA --- The Chattanooga Mocs men's tennis team earned its third-straight victory with a hard-fought 4-3 win over North Alabama on Saturday afternoon in Florence, Alabama.
Following the win, Chattanooga improves to 6-2 on the season. North Alabama moves to 1-4 after the defeat.
"It was a tremendous road win. The doubles point was big again, especially on the road. I give our guys a lot of credit. Not everything went our way, but they found a way," said head coach
Chuck Merzbacher.
Chattanooga took a 1-0 lead following doubles action after the No. 1 paring of
Simon Labbe and
Peyton Gatti and the No. 2 duo of
Kristof Kincses and
Kerim Hyatt posted 7-5 and 6-1 victories, respectively, while the No. 3 tandem of
Jordan McClure and
Gabriel Castillo went unfinished.
In singles play,
Ryan Mudre kicked things off with an impressive 6-1, 6-0 win in the No. 5 hole before Castillo earned the team's third point with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 3. It was the No. 1 singles matchup where UTC clinched the match as Hyatt posted a hard-earned 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory.
"Kerim played a super strong match to clinch at No. 1. Ryan led the way with a quick lockdown point at No. 5. Gabe competed hard and got that important point at No. 3," added Merzbacher.
Chattanooga (6-2) quickly returns to action as the team hosts Tennessee State tomorrow, Saturday, February 18. First serve is set for 1 p.m. ET at the UTC Tennis Center. Live stats will be available for the match and can be found on the schedule page.
