CHARLESTON, S.C — The Chattanooga Mocs men's tennis team earned its first win over College of Charleston since 2013 behind a 5-2 victory in non-conference on Thursday afternoon in Charleston, S.C.
 
Following the win, Chattanooga improves to 10-4 overall ahead of its Southern Conference opener on Sunday. Charleston moves to 6-8 after the defeat. 
 
"This was a tremendous road win for our team. College of Charleston is very tough to beat on their home courts," said head coach Chuck Merzbacher. 
 
"The doubles point was huge, as Kerim [Hyatt] and Kristof [Kincses] played a clutch decider for us to get the doubles point. The momentum was carried forward by a dominant win by Ryan [Mudre] at No. 5 singles. 
 
"Simon played terrific at No. 3 singles as Cortland [Grove] earned the clinch with a strong breaker in the second set. I'm very proud of this group - they understand team tennis and we all need each other to get the win."
 
The win marks the program's first over the Cougars since 2013. The Mocs had previously dropped eight of the last nine meetings between the two teams entering today's action.
 
Chattanooga (10-4) opens Southern Conference action on Sunday, March 19, against The Citadel in Charleston, S.C. First serve is set for 10 a.m. ET.
