Softball Travels to Furman for Final SoCon Series

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The Chattanooga softball team closes out the road portion of the regular season schedule with a three-game set at Furman over the weekend. The Mocs will take on the Paladins in a double-header Saturday and conclude play on Sunday afternoon with one game.

CHATTANOOGA vs. FURMAN
The Mocs and Paladins have met 105 times dating back to 1994 with UTC leading the series 77-28. Chattanooga is 60-24 against Furman in league play and leads 24-19 on the road. UTC is 6-4 against Furman over the last 10 matchups and won the series last year in Chattanooga 2-1. The Mocs swept the Paladins in the Saturday double header and fell on Sunday.
 
ABOUT CHATTANOOGA (21-22, 4-8 SoCon)
Through four series in Southern Conference play, the Mocs won the series with Western Carolina and East Tennessee State 2-1 while falling 0-3 to Mercer and UNCG.
 
UTC is hitting .265, third in the SoCon standings and has 81 extra base hits that includes 26 home runs. Chattanooga leads the conference in stolen bases with 51 on 60 attempts. Kaili Phillips leads the Mocs with a .330 batting average with 11 doubles, fifth in the SoCon, and seven home runs on 34 hits. Addy Keylon has a team-high nine home runs and ranks fifth in the conference. Acelynn Sellers is third in the league with 32 RBIs and Emily Coltharp is second with a pair of triples.
 
UTC is third in the SoCon in pitching with a 3.30 ERA. The Mocs have a conference-best 258 strikeouts and allowed just 245 hits, the fewest in the league standings. Peja Goold is third in the SoCon with a 2.80 ERA with 78 strikeouts through 75.0 innings pitched. Taylor Long is fifth in the SoCon with a 2.87 ERA and 70 strikeouts.
 
ABOUT FURMAN (20-26, 8-6 SoCon)
Furman opened SoCon play with a sweep of Western Carolina. Against ETSU, Mercer and Samford, the Paladins went 1-2 while taking the series with UNCG 2-1.
 
The Paladins are third in the Southern Conference standings and lead the league with a .271 batting average. Furman has 89 extra base hits with 39 home runs, second in the conference. Furman is 48-of-63 on stolen bases. Riley Ludlam is second in the SoCon with a .382 batting average including 13 doubles and nine home runs. Kiley Perry is second on the team with a .338 batting average with 14 doubles, a triple and nine home runs.
 
Furman has a 3.59 ERA, fourth in the SoCon standings with 158 strikeouts. The Paladins have a SoCon-high 367 hits and 209 runs allowed. Emme Buzhardt has a team-best 2.87 ERA through 109.2 innings pitched and 43 strikeouts. Sierra Tufts has a 3.44 ERA and 10 wins with 89 strikeouts.
 
LAST AT BAT
The Mocs fell in three games to league-leading UNCG last weekend. On Saturday, UTC dropped both matches by one run but lost 10-2 on Sunday.
