CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- Chattanooga hit two homers and put seven runs on the board to lead 8-2 after three innings, but that wouldn't be enough Thursday night in the consolation bracket of the Southern Conference Softball Tournament at Frost Stadium. Mercer answered with eight runs over the next two innings and added one more in the sixth to take an 11-8 victory from the Mocs and advance to the Friday rounds.
 
With two on and two out in the second inning, UTC's Zoe Wright singled to the shortstop sending Acelynn Sellers home for the first run of the game.
 
Mercer answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame. The first was an unearned run on a throwing error and the second came on a bases loaded walk to make it 2-1 in favor of the Bears.
 
Chattanooga's damage came in the third with three hits including two home runs and three errors. Emily Coltharp led off with a walk and advanced to second on a sac bunt. Sellers reached on a dropped fly ball to center field, scoring Coltharp to tie the game, 2-2.
 
Addy Keylon singled, sending Sellers home and ended up at second. Jayce Purdy launched a shot over the fence in left field to put the Mocs up 5-3.
 
With two out, Zoe Wright reached on a throwing error that sent her to second. Riley Kokinda walked to put two on for Kaili Phillips who hit her team-leading 10^th home run of the season, giving the Mocs a commanding 8-2 advantage after two-and-a-half innings.
 
The Bears opened their half of the third with a double and followed that with a home run to cut Chattanooga's lead in half, 8-4. Lavdis entered the game and got the next three outs.
 
Mercer took the lead in the bottom of the fourth and never trailed again with six runs in the inning. The Mocs got the first two batters out, but a pair of singles and a double from the next three batters scored two runs, pulling the Bears to within two.
 
The next three batters walked, plating another run. That was followed by a wild pitch to score the tying run and an error allowing the go ahead. An RBI single scored the Bears 10^th run of the game before the Mocs could get the final out of the fourth.
 
Presley Williamson was 2-for-4, Kaili Phillips was 1-for-4 with a three-run home run, Jayce Purdy was 1-for-3 with a two-run homer and Addy Keylon drove in a run on one hit.
 
Chattanooga used four pitchers, beginning with senior Brooke Parrott who threw two innings in her final game. Alyssa Lavdis came in for an inning and two-thirds and struck out two and Taylor Long struck out a pair in two and a third innings.
 
Mercer added one more run in the sixth and allowed just one more base runner for UTC in the seventh to get the win and advance to the next round in the consolation bracket. The Bears will take on ETSU Friday at 12:30.
 
 
NOTES
Nineteen runs is the most combined in the SoCon Championships and Mercer's comeback from six down beat out the Mocs five-run comeback last season in the title game against UNCG
