CHATTANOOGA – The Chattanooga Mocs men's tennis team and head coach
Chuck Merzbacher have finalized the signing of Czech Republic standout Jakub Jupa to the upcoming 2023-24 roster, the program announced Tuesday.
Jupa will head to the Scenic City from Kladno, Czech Republic, following a stellar junior career at the International level. Merzbacher is extremely eager to welcome Jupa to the roster following 2023's historic campaign.
"I'm excited to announce that Jakub Jupa, from the Czech Republic, will be playing for the Mocs next year. This young man comes from a country with rich tennis tradition and an extremely competitive tennis environment," said Merzbacher.
"Jakup has a big serve and a big forehand, along with net skills that allow him to be a two-point player in college and will help us in doubles and singles."
Jupa has achieved an International Tennis Federation (ITF) World Ranking as high as No. 249 which includes a pair of runner-up finishes in singles play and four runner-up finishes in doubles action at the ITF level.
"He has achieved an ITF World Ranking as high as 249 and has two runner-up finishes in singles in ITF Events, and four runner-up doubles tournaments at the ITF level," added Merzbacher. "He is top 20 junior player in his country and top 100 in the men's division."
Jupa is a two-time champion at singles (U12 & U16) and a one-time champion at doubles (U16) at the capital city of Prague. In team format, he carries a national championship (U14) and three runner-up finishes (U12, 2x U18).
"He is a hard worker and a very good student, and I look forward to working with him and taking his game to the high collegiate level. Signing Jakub was super important to add much needed strength and depth to our line-up," Merzbacher concluded.
