CHATTANOOGA---Two Chattanooga Mocs caught the eye of another FCS Football media group's preseason All-America notice. Seniors
Jay Person (edge) and Kam Brown (defensive back) are first team members of
the Bluebloods FCS Preseason All-America Team.
Â
This is Person's second mention of what is sure to be many in 2023. He was also
named to the Athlon Sports team earlier this month after an All-America campaign in 2022 that netted a top eight finish in the Buck Buchanan Award voting for the FCS Defensive Player of the Year. It is the first preseason mention of Brown's career, however…
Â
Person and Brown were two of four first team All-America student-athletes for the Mocs in 2022. Defensive tackle
Devonnsha Maxwell and offensive lineman
McClendon Curtis also claimed at least one first team mention. Chattanooga's four was eclipsed only by national champion South Dakota State's five.
Â
Person had 52 tackles a year ago including 17.5 for loss with 8.0 sacks. The former led the Southern Conference, while the latter tied for the lead with Maxwell, a half-sack clear of teammate
Ben Brewton who tied for third.
Â
Brown had 11 passes defended, finishing top five nationally with six interceptions. One of those was a pick six on the second offensive play of the day for Mercer in a 41-21 win in Finley Stadium. It was one of two picks for Brown on the day.

The Mocs 2023 schedule is linked above. Five homes games are included with visits from Kennesaw State, The Citadel, Western Carolina, ETSU and Furman. Season tickets start at just $60 for general admission. Click the link above, go to the Go Mocs app or call (423) 266-MOCS (6627) to purchase.
