Torbett Releases 2023 Schedule for Indoor Volleyball

Mocs prepare for Sept. 6 home-opener in Maclellan Gym.

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga indoor volleyball team has officially revealed the team's 2023 indoor volleyball schedule, as announced by Director of Volleyball Julie Torbett on Friday.

"I am really excited for the upcoming 2023 season," Torbett said. "In just my second year, the goal was to create a schedule that is made up of quality teams in our region, while still allowing us the opportunity to gain confidence heading into Southern Conference play.  The overall atmosphere in The Mac last season was critical to our success in the SoCon, so we look forward to Moc Nation helping to make Chattanooga a tough place to play."

Following the team playing their annual Blue-Gold Scrimmage on August 17 as well as an additional exhibition on August 19 in Maclellan Gym against Tennessee Tech, both of which are open to the public, the team will officially open their 2023 season by traveling to the Georgia State Tournament August 25-26 in Atlanta. The Mocs will then travel to the Charleston Southern Tournament, which is set to run September 1-2 in South Carolina.

After back-to-back tournaments on the road, UTC will then return home for their home-opening matchup with Austin Peay on September 6, before once again hitting the road to take part in the Geri Polvino Invitational hosted by Eastern Kentucky September 8-9. Chattanooga will remain on the road for an additional nonconference match on September 12 against Jacksonville State before traveling back to their home turf.

Once back in Chattanooga, the Mocs will host the annual Chattanooga Classic tournament featuring matchups against Eastern Michigan, Morehead State and Gardner-Webb. The two-day tournament will run September 15-16 at Maclellan Gym and marks the end of the Mocs' nonconference slate.

UTC will then dip into Southern Conference play, which will consist of a total of 17 SoCon clashes for the Mocs beginning with back-to-back home matches against The Citadel (Sept. 22) and Wofford (Sept. 23). After a brief three-match road spell, UTC will return to Maclellan Gym for matches against Furman (Oct. 6) and Western Carolina (Oct. 7).

After another lengthy stretch on the road, the Mocs will welcome UNCG and ETSU to Chattanooga on October 26 and 27, respectively, before traveling to their final two away matches of the season. The Mocs will then wrap up their regular season at home with matchups against Mercer (Nov. 9) and Samford (Nov. 10).

The Southern Conference Tournament is then set to run November 17-19, with Wofford serving as host in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
