Soccer Travels to Tennessee Tech Sunday

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The Chattanooga Mocs will stay on the road to take on in-state foe Tennessee Tech Sunday evening in Cookeville. The match will kick off at 7:00 p.m. Eastern time at Tech Soccer Field.

CHATTANOOGA vs. TENNESSEE TECH
Chattanooga leads the series with Tennessee Tech 13-6-2. On the road, UTC leads the series 6-3-1.
 
LAST TIME THEY MET
The two teams faced off in 2022 in Chattanooga. The game ended in a 1-1 draw. Caroline Richvalsky scored the first goal of the game early in the second half and the Golden Eagles tied it up in the 88th minute. The Mocs edged TTU 12-11 on shots but dominated Tech 8-3 on shots on goal. UTC had three corner kicks late in the match and a free kick from just outside the box.
 
MOCS NEWS AND NOTES
ZOEY MIZE SCORES FIRST COLLEGIATE GOAL IN OPENER
Sophomore Zoey Mize struck late against Vanderbilt, zipping her shot into the top left corner of the net for her first collegiate goal. She had two assists as a freshman.
 
FABIA REINSCHMIDT NAMED 'FRESHMAN TO WATCH' BY TDS
Fabia Reinschmidt was named a "Freshman to Watch" by Top Drawer Soccer in it's season preview. Reinschmidt comes to Chattanooga from Switzerland where she was a four-time regional and two-time Swiss champion.
 
JOHANNSDOTTIR TIES EXHIBITION IN 81ST MINUTE
Junior Birna Johannsdottir fired off the game-tying goal at Murray State in the Mocs second exhibition game of the season. She scored into the bottom right corner of the net to tie the match in the 81st minute.
 
MCKINNEY NAMED AMBASSADOR FOR ACS MEN WEAR PINK
Head coach Gavin McKinney will be sporting the Pink look in a few games this season in honor of his wife Shari who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2018. McKinney is an ambassador for the American Cancer Society's "Men Wear Pink" campaign and is raising funds to fight breast cancer.
 
MACKENZIE SMITH NAMED PRESEASON ALL-CONFERNCE
Senior captain Mackenzie Smith was named to the Southern Conference Coaches Preseason All-Conference Team. She earned all-conference first team honors in 2022.
 
MOCS PICKED TO FINISH FOURTH BY NARROW MARGIN
With just three points separating second, third and fourth in the SoCon Coaches Preseason Poll, the Mocs were picked to finish fourth with 64 points. Mercer was one point ahead with 65 points and UNCG second with 67. Samford, 2022 Co-Champions, received seven first place votes and 77 points for first. The Mocs received two first place votes and UNCG received one.
 
MOCS SOCCER RETURNS TO FINLEY STADIUM
For the third time the Mocs are calling Finley Stadium home. Chattanooga hosted UT Martin in 1998 for its first game there, scoring a 5-1 victory, and remained through the 2004 season. After five seasons at the North River Soccer Complex, UTC returned to Finley in 2010 and played 11 seasons on the turf field. In 2019, UTC constructed the Sports Complex on campus next to historic Engel Stadium. The facility hosted the Mocs for four campaigns, including 2022, when UTC claimed its first Southern Conference regular season title. Chattanooga hosts nine matches at Finley Stadium this season, including an August 5 exhibition against Western Kentucky.
 
MOCS RETURN VETERAN CORE
2022 SoCon First Team All-Conference member Mackenzie Smith leads a core of returners this season who helped lead the Mocs to their first-ever SoCon regular season title. Second team members Birna Johannsdottir, Clarissa Salinas and Caroline Ekern make their return along with all-freshman team members Ekern, Salinas, Zoey Mize, and Caroline Richvalsky.
 
BRING ON THE NEWCOMERS
The Mocs welcome eight newcomers this season that includes one transfer and seven freshmen. Nicole Solete transferred to UTC from Dallas Baptist University where she played in five matches. Looking to make a splash this season are keepers Mary Kate Varino and Claire Smith along with Lauren Gutshall, Carmya Mastrangelo, Fabia Reinschmidt, Betha Pucek and Mary Beth Skelton.
