SATURDAY GAME STORY | SCHEDULE | TICKETS

CHATTANOOGA---The Southern Conference portion of the Chattanooga Mocs schedule begins this Saturday with a visit from The Citadel. It's a 9-week, 9-game gauntlet that ends with a bye week prior to the regular season finale at Alabama.

As daunting as that sounds, the Mocs got good news to start the process. Sophomore safety Jordan Walker is this week's SoCon Defensive Player of the Week. Walker led a historic effort by the defense.

The unit held Kennesaw State scoreless in the first half. That's something that had never happened to the Owls before. They also limited their opponents to 102 rushing yards for the game, which is also a program low.

Walker's career-high 11 tackles led the way. Get used to that career high note because he has more to come from Saturday's performance. That included 2.0 tackles for loss and his first sack. In fact, His 2.0 TFLs are 0.5 more than he had all last season as well as 0.5 better than his previous high from the opener at North Alabama (1.5).

"Jordan's a good football player," Coach Rusty Wright began. "He's grown a lot since he's been here. He's very deserving of the award, he played really well last week. He's got to continue to do that for us.

"We were much better defensively (as a unit). Eyes were better, discipline was better, fundamentals were better. That gives you the opportunity to play good defense."

The Mocs turn their attention to The Citadel. The Bulldogs come to town in a similar position to seven other teams in the league including Chattanooga at 0-0 in league play. Western Carolina took the early lead in the standings with a 30-7 win over Samford Saturday in a weather-delayed marathon.
