Soccer Continues Homestand Sunday against Jax State

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The Chattanooga women's soccer team will play its second straight game at home on Sunday to take on Jacksonville State in non-conference action. Gates at Finley Stadium open one hour prior to the 1:00 p.m. Eastern time kick off. Admission is free and concessions are available.

CHATTANOOGA vs. JACKSONVILLE STATE
It's been more than a decade since the two teams met on the pitch in the regular season. Jacksonville State leads the series 2-3-1 with UTC winning the last match 1-0 in 2011. In Chattanooga, the series is tied 1-1. This will be just the second match at Finley Stadium. In 2001 the two teams battled to a double-overtime 2-2 draw. The Mocs beat the Gamecocks 2-1 at the North River Soccer Complex in 2005. In the 2022 preseason, JSU won 1-0 in an exhibition match in Jacksonville.
 
CHATTANOOGA (3-1-0, 0-0-0 SoCon)
The Mocs are on a three-game win streak after a 4-1 victory against Austin Peay at Finley Stadium Thursday night. Chattanooga beat Tennessee Tech (1-0) and North Alabama (1-0) on the road after opening the season at Vanderbilt (1-3). Birna Johannsdottir leads UTC in scoring with seven points on three goals and one assist. Clarissa Salinas and Caroline Richvalsky each lead the Mocs with two assists apiece. Four players, including Richvalsky, each have one goal. Caroline Ekern has earned three wins this season with two shutouts. She has a .810 save percentage and 17 saves with a 1.00 goals-against average.
 
JACKSONVILLE STATE (3-2-0, 0-0-0 CUSA)
The Gamecocks scored 18 goals in their first two games with wins against Alabama A&M (5-0) and South Carolina State (13-0). That followed with back-to-back losses to SoCon foe Samford (0-6) and UAB (0-3). In its last outing, Jax State beat Alcorn State (4-0) at home. Laleh Lonteen leads the team with five goals and three assists for a team-best 13 points. Camryn Davis and Naroa Domenech have 11 points apiece with five goals and one assist. Also in double figures is Kylie Wells with 10 points on three goals and a team-high four assists. Bailey Dean has clocked all 405 minutes in goal. She has 21 saves, a .700 save percentage and a 2.00 goals-against average with nine goals conceded.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Chattanooga came away with a 4-1 victory against Austin Peay at home Thursday night. It took nearly 63 minutes before the Mocs first goal crossed the goal line. Birna Johannsdottir turned on the ball just outside the six-yard box and fired a left-footed shot through to put the Mocs up 1-0. It didn't take long for the Govs to tie the match, but Chattanooga answered with goals from Caroline Richvalsky, Mackenzie Smith and Betha Pucek. Caroline Ekern recorded five saves. The Mocs outshot APSU 25-11.
