CHATTANOOGA---The home opener is right around the corner as the Chattanooga Mocs host the Kennesaw State Owls Saturday evening at Finley Stadium. It's the first meeting between the two schools separated by approximately 94 miles. It's one that certainly presents a challenge for the Mocs looking to bounce back from last week's opener loss at North Alabama.
Â
"All of (what went wrong at UNA) is fixable," Coach
Rusty Wright said. "I told them Monday 'to grab the good part' that was on film. There was a lot of good. Harness the good stuff and learn from the mistakes.
Â
"Practice is off to a good start this week as we prepare for a very talented Kennesaw State team."
Â
There was plenty to be excited about offensively with nearly 500 yards of offense and one of the best QB statistical debuts. Defensively, big plays were the tipping point the six UNA touchdowns accounting for 206 of the 517 yards on the other side of the ledger.
Â
"We just didn't do things that we'd been doing up until this point," Wright noted immediately after the game. "I'm not taking anything away from them, give those guys credit. They played their tails off and made plays when they had to. They just played like they had played a game already, and we played like we had not.
Â
"It took us a little while to get going but once we got going we looked pretty good, but we just weren't consistent. That's it. We need to do what we're supposed to do all the time."
Â
Kickoff Saturday is at 6 p.m. Tickets are on sale on GoMocs.com with season still available as well as a special mini-plan along with the single-game variety. It airs on ESPN+ and the Mocs Sports Network. It's a big night of promotions and plans. It's also the first of two in a row at home with The Citadel next weekend on Sept. 16.
