CHATTANOOGA---The Football Championship Subdivision Athletic Directors Association (FCS ADA) announced its 53-person Academic All-Star Team for 2023 on Sunday. The Chattanooga Mocs earned the maximum two spots with defensive back Reuben Lowery III and center Reid Williams representing their side of the ball.
 
"Reid and Reuben are the very definition of student-athlete," Coach Rusty Wright said. "They're captains and important leaders in our locker room. Not only on the football field, but off it. Good players, good students and good in the community."
 
Lowery and Williams are two of five from the Southern Conference on the team. Also making the grade was Mercer linebacker Ken Standley, VMI quarterback Collin Ironside and Wofford defensive lineman Brandon Maina.
 
The Mocs were one of 12 schools to claim two Academic All-Stars. The others include Abilene Christian, Drake, Illinois State, Montana State, North Dakota State, South Dakota State, Stephen F. Austin, Stonehill, Albany, Central Arkansas and Richmond.
 
Williams is one of 11 offensive linemen on the squad, while Lowery is one of four defensive back among the 53 total. The 25th annual Academic All-Star team has stringent criteria requiring a minimum 3.2 grade point average while playing as a starter or key performer with legitimate athletics credentials and completing at least two years of competition at their current institution.
