CHATTANOOGA---The Chattanooga Mocs put four on the first All-America team announcement of 2023. The group was led by senior defensive back Kam Brown with first team honors per FCS Football Central.

Javin Whatley claimed second team mention with offensive lineman
Reid Williams on the third team. It's the second season as an All-American for Brown and Person, while it's the first for Whatley and Williams.

"Each of those guys earned those honors throughout the week," Coach
Rusty Wright shared. "These are guys who put in the work, day-in, day-out to be good players. I'm glad to see them recognized for their efforts for our football team."

Brown had 33 tackles, three interceptions and five pass breakups. He made his second career pick six sealing the dominant win at Samford.

Person was a Buck Buchanan Award finalist with 56 tackles including 17.0 tackles for loss and a career-best 9.5 sacks. He repeated as Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Year.

Whatley was mentioned on the Phil Steele Freshman All-America squad in 2022. He followed that up with nine TD receptions, the sixth most by a Moc and highest total since 10 by Jason Jones in 2002.

Williams was one of the top offensive linemen in the nation. He anchored the nation's second-best pass blocking units in all of DI ranking just behind Oregon. He was a Sophomore All-America in 2022 per HERO Sports.

- Brown is the first back-to-back 1st team All-American since…DT Devonnsha Maxwell. Maxwell, a 3-time All-America pick was second team in 2020-21 and then first on three squads in 2021 and two more in 2022. He is the only 2-time first team All-American in school history.
- Back-to-back years with four on a single team. Person (1st/2nd), Brown (2nd/1st), Maxwell (2nd/1st) and McClendon Curtis (2nd/1st) shared the limelight on the AP/Bluebloods.com listings.
- Williams continues the O-line tradition. Since 2014, seven All-America mentions on the offensive front for the room: Corey Levin (2014-16), Jacob Revis (2016), Cole Strange (2021) and McClendon Curtis (2022).
