Volleyball Drops 3-0 Match to Wofford

The match marks the end of what was a six-match homestand for the Mocs.

CHATTANOOGA --- Chattanooga volleyball fell at the hands of second-place Wofford in Maclellan Gymnasium on Thursday night, with the Terriers downing the Mocs in three sets.

A slow start to the match for the Mocs put UTC on its heels early, and Wofford didn't waste the opportunity as the Terriers ultimately went on to out-hit Chattanooga .358 to .160 enroute to the victory.

The Terriers pulled out early on the Mocs in the opening frame and didn't look back, going on to grab the first set 25-14. While UTC looked better in the second, the Terriers remained unfazed as the would secure a 25-19 set win in the second to take a 2-0 lead.

In the third set, the Mocs put together their best effort of the night remaining neck and neck with Wofford all the way to a 20-19 score line. Despite this, however, the Terriers were able to seal their three-set win behind a 5-1 scoring run to close out the match. When all was said and done in Maclellan Gymnasium, the Terriers came out on top 3-0.

The duo of Chard'e Vanzandt and Elaine Redman paved the way for UTC's offense on the night, with Vanzandt accounting for a team-high 11 kills while Redman added 25 assists. Freshman Mallory Merz not only recorded her first collegiate ace in the match but went on to finish with a team-best two aces overall.

Defensively, Paige Gallentine ended her night with a team-high 16-dig performance, while Vanzandt's two blocks led the team in the category. Redshirt-freshman Jordyn Butler and true freshman Gracie Rose also each recorded their first collegiate blocks in the match for the Mocs.
