CHATTANOOGA---The Chattanooga Mocs finished seventh at the Steelwood Collegiate in Loxley, Ala., Sunday afternoon. The Mocs final round 292 gave the squad a 54-hole total of 862, 2 under at Steelwood Country Club.
Braedon Wear led a consistent final day for the group with even-par 72.
Garrett Engle and
Camden Braidech matched with 73s ahead of a pair of 74s from
Carson Johnson and
Ethan Whitaker.
Johnson turned in his best collegiate effort leading the squad with 2-under 214. That tied for 24th, one ahead of Engle's 215 with Whitaker lurking another stroke behind at level-par 216. Wear was next at 218 as Braidech finished with 222.
"We showed spurts of really impressive golf," Coach
Blaine Woodruff said. "Carson had a solid finish, his best as a Moc I believe. The talent is there. We do the hard stuff well, but we just need to do simple better.
"I feel like we learned a lot as a group this fall, especially our younger guys. We will sit down and come up with a development plan for each guy. They'll all be competing in stuff over the winter, and we will be ready to go late January in California."
No. 12 Illinois earned a 2-shot win over Kennesaw State for the team title. Kansas State's Nick Mason cruised to the individual win with 17-under 199.
The Mocs return to the tee in January traveling to southern California for the Southwestern Invitational at Sherwood Country Club.
