ABOUT CHATTANOOGA GOLF
 
CHATTANOOGA---The Chattanooga Mocs men's golf team began play today at Cullan Brown Collegiate hosted by Kentucky at Lexington Country Club. The field was unable to complete the full 36 holes on day one. The Mocs opened with 304 and was 16 over in round two when darkness fell.
 
Camden Braidech and Nick Etherton led the way in round one with a pair of 75s. Ethan Whitaker was one off their number at 76 as Braedon Wear completed the team score with 78. Carson Johnson had the drop tally of 80.
 
Braidech got off to a strong start in the afternoon 18. Birdies at one and six sent him through the turn at 2 under. A birdie at 12 was framed by bogeys at 10 and 13 to make his way to the team hotel 1 under through 15. He's moved up into a tie for second at 3 over.
 
Etherton is at 4 over through 16, while Wear and Johnson are tied at 7 over. Wear finished his day, while Johnson is through 16. Whitaker has one hole to play at 8 over.
 
Garrett Engle paced the individual trip with 74. Dalton Burts shot 76 ahead of Dalton Chuba's 78. Burts shot back in round at +2 through 17. Chuba shot 74 (=3), while Engle is on his 17th hole at 4 over. Engle and Burts are currently tied 19th as Chuba is tied for 43rd.
 
"We're looking forward to an opportunity tomorrow," Coach Blaine Woodruff said. "It's a chance to finish strong and move up the leaderboard. We have yet to play to what I believe our capabilities are. Tomorrow is a great chance to do that.
 
"I'm proud of our guys for never giving up today even when it wasn't going well. Days like these only make us better."
 
Kennesaw State is the leader ahead of Kentucky. Braidech and five others are two shots behind leader Andrew Ferworn of North Alabama who finished his 36 holes.
 
The field returns in the morning to complete round two. It then transitions into the final 18.

• Braidech is 8 over in the first round this season, 3 under on the other 51 holes.
• Burts' six birdies leads the team and ranks tied for sixth apiece on a very stingy Lexington Country Club tract. That leads the Mocs just ahead of Braidech and Engle with five apiece.
• Braidech is tied for the tournament lead for par 4 scoring at 1 under (3.95).
