CHATTANOOGA---The 23rd-ranked Chattanooga Mocs hit the road for the last time in Southern Conference play this weekend at The Citadel. It's always a tough test in Hagood Stadium made a bit spicier as it's Homecoming Week for the Bulldogs.
Â
The Mocs enter the contest at 5-4, 4-2 in the SoCon. That's good for third place, just one game our of first held by Mercer at 5-1. The Bears travel to the league's other academy VMI this weekend.
Â
The Citadel is 4-5, 2-4 in league play. They've proven to be a tough test for each of the six teams that have come across their path prior to the Mocs in the league and are currently on a 2-game win streak while coming off a bye week.
Â
"I'm just excited to go play down there in Charleston," Coach
Rusty Wright said. "Just get back on the field and compete. It sounds like it's going to be a big crowd. Their quarterback is playing well and they're good defensively. They've won two games in a row in the league. It'll be a tough challenge for us."
Â
This week's contest is a battle of two of the stingier defense in the league the Bulldogs are second in scoring defense at 19.8 points per game. The Mocs are fifth at 22.9 points per game but slice that nearly in half league games only (13.8 ppg).
Â
Chat with the Mocs is NOT on the air tonight. The weekly coaches show features Coach
Rusty Wright and a selected student-athlete with "Voice of the Mocs" Jim Reynolds from 7-8 p.m., every Monday at Miller's Ale House at Northgate. It is skipped for the week due to the start of basketball season Monday night with the women hosting Shorter and the men at USC.

Notes
- Three defensive scores on the season after DE Leroy Harris III's record-setting fumble return Saturday at Western. Harris' 75-yard scoop & score is the longest in the regular season for a Moc. The three scores are the most since four in 2016 although three of those came in the playoffs. The 2015 holds the record of five total, four in the regular season. The 2011 squad also had five with all of them coming in the regular season.
- The defense has been rather "thefty" this season. That includes 14 takeaways over the last four games including 10 interceptions. The 20 takeaways in nine games is fifth nationally while 15 total interceptions ranks second.
- The loss Saturday at Western snapped a 6-game road winning streak in conference games. The Mocs have won 7 of the last 9 on the road against FCS competition.
- Luke Schomburg's 314 passing yards Saturday marked the second time in school history the Mocs had two different 300-yard passers in the same season. Chase Artopoeus had 396 in the win over Portland State. The other instance was 2001 with Chuck Spearman (317 vs VMI) & Justin Barnes (325 vs Kentucky State).
- One sack and just three TFLs allowed at Western by the offensive line. That continues an impressive run allowing just three sacks and 17 TFLs over the last six games. The offensive front has allowed one or fewer sacks 42 times in the 61 games of the Wright Era.
