CHATTANOOGA---The 23rd-ranked Chattanooga Mocs are back on the road this weekend travelling to the South Carolina low country for a date with The Citadel. The two teams match up Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
Â
It's a meeting that always seems to go down to the wire. The Mocs have won 11 of the last 15, but 10 of the last 15 games have ended within a 1-score margin. It's also Homecoming for a resurgent Bulldogs squad that's won two in a row and is coming off a bye week.
Â
Both teams have similar goals…control the clock and play tough defense. The Mocs (31:29) and Bulldogs (30:33) are two of just three league teams that have a positive time of possession on the season. The hosts rank among the SoCon leaders in all four major defensive categories – scoring (2nd), total (4th), rushing (4th) & passing (3rd).
Â
While the Chattanooga overall numbers are skewed by the opener at Tennessee, the defensive unit has been the envy of the league in SoCon games only. It averages 13.8 points and 295.0 yards per game of total offense allowed in league play. That's averages of 122.5 on the ground and 172.5 by air.
Â
Coach
Rusty Wright began the weekly press conference with a full media contingent of local TV stations and news outlets. He was followed by quarterback
Luke Schomburg and defensive end
Chris Victor.

Notes
- 5-4 on the season and 4-2 in the Southern Conference. Currently third in the league, one game behind Mercer at 5-1 and a half-game shy of Western Carolina at 4-1.
- A win clinches 6th straight winning season. A 1st for a Mocs coach to start his career. It's also just the second time in school history for any coach with CFB Hall of Famer Scrappy Moore also doing it from 1939-46.
- Wide receivers Javin Whatley and Sam Phillips are halfway to a Mocs career record. Both have five career 100-yard receiving games. The record of 10 belongs to Joe Burke who played from 1977-80.
- 20 defensive takeaways ranks fifth nationally while 15 interceptions ranks second.
- Lead the nation in passing yards per completion (15.16). QB Luke Schomburg had nine completions of 20 or more yards to five different receivers in Cullowhee.
