Postgame Quotes

Dan Earl, Head Coach
Overall thoughts on the team's 84-71 win over ETSU.
"Overall a good win. If we could bottle up the last 12 minutes of the first half, I thought we played really well. In the second half, credit to ETSU, we were playing at their pace. You could see that they were slowing the game down a bit and we couldn't really get the game sped up more. We didn't take care of the ball like we needed to and gave up some offensive rebounds as well. We did do some good things. We kept No. 14, (Ebby) Asamoah, in check. We did a really good job on him. We also shared the ball with 21 assist, which is really good, we just got a little careless. Some things to clean up certainly, but proud of the guys for pulling out a big win against ETSU. Hopefully we'll get better from it."

On keeping ETSU off the glass.
"That was out number one goal going into this game. We did some extra rebounding drills going into this game. We did a really good job in the first half, I want to say they had four at halftime but ended up with 13, so that slipped a bit in the second. Sam (Alexis) was really good on the boards, Randy Brady grabbed some really big rebounds for us as well. You really have to be on your toes because that's what they do best. They're going to shoot it, they've got some guys that can score. Obviously No. 1 (Quimari Peterson) went downhill on us way too many times, so they went and got some rebounds in the second half. With it being our point of emphasis, overall I thought we did a pretty good job. I'd just like to see them get less rebounds in the second half."

On the pace of play in the second half.
"To be honest, I'd rather it be a little faster. That might seem counter intuitive since you have a lead so you shouldn't be in a rush, and you could see there was one where I about lost my mind where we got the defensive rebound and then threw it to them in transition. There's an art between going fast, but possession still matters even more than going fast. I didn't like the pace of the game or the flow of the game and we made some ill-advised turnovers in that stretch, so I'd rather it be faster but it was what it was. It's sometimes good to figure out ways to win when the pace of the game isn't where you want it."

On Honor Huff.
"He obviously drilled shots for us tonight, which was really good. Sometimes there were some late ones where it was two-on-one and Trey's pitching it back to Honor in transition and you're like, I don't know... but then it goes in and you're like alright maybe. He's not afraid and he can take and make big shots, but I'm more proud of him today defensively. He was locked in. No. 14 (Asamoah) for them is a really good player and shooter, so I thought he did a really good job at just staying on his tail multiple times. It doesn't hurt for him to have nine threes as well, we'll take that, but he's a really good overall player. I'm happy for his progress."

Honor Huff, G-So.
On if there was a moment tonight where he felt like he was really getting it going.
"I mean, I'm a shooter so we always feel like we got it going. I could miss three and still feel like I got it going. I came out the gate and hit two threes and that really got us going. I had some wrist problems earlier in the week where my wrist was swollen and I was working on that this morning and going into treatment after class. I didn't really know what to expect today but once I hit the first two and it felt good, I felt like I had my shot and I knew it was going to be a good game."

On what sitting out last year allowed him to learn.
"Just seeing the speed of the game. I think some people forget that this is only my second year playing college basketball. Just seeing where I can include my game into the offensive culture and seeing it in a new light in Chattanooga. Seeing defenses and how I can incorporate my shooting or driving to creation in the game, that was probably the biggest thing, just analyzing that. Plus getting stronger in the weight room, that was a big takeaway from that year for me."
