Men’s Basketball’s Honor Huff Named Southern Conference Player of the Week

The Chattanooga Mocs men’s basketball sophomore tied a school record for three-pointers made in a game during Wednesday’s win over ETSU & averaged 28.5 points per game for the week.

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (February 19, 2024) --- After a record-tying week, Chattanooga Mocs men's basketball star sophomore guard Honor Huff has been named the Southern Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.

The Brooklyn, N.Y., native earns the league's weekly award for the first time in his career and is the first Moc to be awarded since Jake Stephens' sixth selection of the 2022-23 season last January. It's the 69th all-time POTW selection in program history which is second-most among active league members (Furman, 77).

Huff finished the week averaging a blistering 28.5 points per game while shooting an efficient 51.6% (16-of-31) from the field, an even 50.0% (12-of-24) mark from three and 92.9% (13-of-14) at the line to help keep Chattanooga among the top three in the league standings. He also averaged 2.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game while playing a lengthy 37.9 minutes per contest.

During Wednesday's 84-71 win over rival ETSU in the 100th all-time meeting, Huff scored a career-high 31 points and tied a school record with nine three-pointers after finishing 10-of-17 from the floor and 9-of-16 from deep. In Sunday's game at Furman, Huff finished with a game-high 26 points on 6-of-14 (3-of-8, 3PT) shooting while going 11-of-12 from the line.

The 57 points over the past two games are the most for a UTC guard in consecutive games since Malachi Smith's 61 in road games at Belmont and Murray State in December 2021. The pair of performances marked the second time this season in which a Moc went for 25 or more in back-to-back games after Trey Bonham went for 25 and 27 against UNCG and Mercer, respectively, in mid-January.

Huff currently leads the Southern Conference and ranks eighth in NCAA DI with 88 total 3-point FGM this season while also leading the league and sitting 12th in the country with a 3.26 3-point FGM per-game average. The sophomore is one of just seven players in DI with 18 or more games this season with three or more triples.
