Postgame Quotes

Dan Earl, Head Coach
Overall thoughts on 88-84 victory at VMI.
"That was a hard one. A ton of credit to VMI. They played outstandingly and they really came at us. It's a tough place to play with the core behind them, it got loud. There are so many things we need to do better as a team. We weren't throwing it to the open man, rebounding I thought we were poor. We didn't turn them over and they played confident. But I do have to give the guys credit. When it got tight, we made the plays down the stretch to win. There's something good there that we didn't get too tight and played through it. Proud of the guys, but it was not the cleanest game."

On the play of Trey Bonham & Honor Huff.
"I thought they played well in spurts. I think they tried a couple homerun balls. I had to get on them a little bit in the first half over shot selection and decision making. Some things we didn't need. But what also makes them good, they made huge plays down the stretch especially with Honor's big three."

On the runs in tonight's game.
"They were big in this game. We're guilty sometimes, when the other team gets going or we get going, we start to do things differently and get out of our mold. We have to get better at tampering with the other team's runs while still making the right play on our end. I can't say enough how hard VMI played tonight, they deserved to win that game. We're lucky to walk out of here with a win."

Honor Huff, So.-G
On the return to VMI.
"Obviously, this is where I had the first chance to play Division I basketball, and the fans, they brought it today. I thought we played as badly as we could have played on the defensive end. But on the other side of things, we got down and we pulled it out. Just to preserve through that and come out with a win, that's huge for us."

On the battle against VMI.
"They came to play. You can't take any team for granted, especially VMI, they play so hard and compete. When you play here, it's a plus-10 attribute for them, with the fans and everyone, everything just goes up plus-10."

On taking big-time shots down the stretch.
"I knew in that moment, you don't want to take a hero shot that's ill-advised in that moment, but I knew if I had an open look, I was going to take it. That's a testament to the teammate's confidence in me, the coaches' confidence in me, and the confidence I have in myself."
