Nieves Martin finished with her second top 10 of the season tying for 10th with a career-best total at the Spring Break Shootout.

DADE CITY, Fla.---The Chattanooga Mocs completed the Spring Break Shootout with a 297 tally Tuesday afternoon. The 2-day, 54-hole total of 861 (+9) tied Florida Gulf Coast for fourth in the event played on the South Course at Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club.
Violeta Fernandez-Tagle and Nieves Martin led the way today and for the tournament. The Spanish duo shot 1-over 72s ending up in the top 10 overall. Kera Healey added 76 to the team score with Makenzie Cooper's 77 completing it. The 78 by Giulia Foresta served as the drop score.
Fernandez-Tagle finished seventh with a 3-under 210. Her opening round 67 not only was a career low, it tied for the Mocs low round of the season (Cooper). Martin shot a career low 1-over 214 with a consistent 71, 71 and 72 for her three scores.
Healey was next with 219 which tied her season best (Evie Odom Invite). Cooper was one behind her at 220, while Foresta came in at 222.
"Today was tough," Coach Colette Murray texted from the airport awaiting their flight home. "We just didn't have our best stuff. Nieves and Violeta played well, and Kera did too (outside of a tough penalty). Now it's time for a wee rest before we host at Council Fire.
"We were hoping for more (here), however, there was a lot learned and many things gained that will make us better in the long run."
Western Kentucky swept team and individual wins with a 14-under 838 as a collective led by medalist Catie Craig (201). North Florida came in second with 853, while James Madison claimed third at 859.
The Mocs are off until April 7 when the Chattanooga Classic starts. The ladies host a strong contingent at Council Fire Golf Club with 18 holes per day through Tuesday, April 9. Admission is free.

Notes to Know
- 861 total is the third lowest of the campaign for the Mocs, but it's just one shot shy of the lead…the squad shot 860 at Evie Odom Invitational (+20) in October and again two weeks ago in the UNF Collegiate (-4).
- First round 280 (-4) is the lowest 18-hole score of the season…it's second vs. par to 6 under (282) at the UNF Collegiate.
- That score was built with an astounding 91.7 percent of holes played par or better on the counting cards (66 of 72)…it was 88.9 percent (80/90) adding in Healey's dropped scoresheet.
- 56 first round pars is a season high as is 148 for the event.
- Fernandez-Tagle earned her fourth straight top 10 and fifth top 15 in a row…she's averaging 72.08 strokes per 18 in the spring (12 cards) and is 4 over during that span.
- Martin earned her second top 10 (Reynolds Lake Oconee)…she's the third Moc (4-Fernandez-Tagle & 3-Cooper) to have multiple top 10s on the season.
