Violeta Fernandez-Tagle led the Chattanooga Mocs starters on day one of the Chattanooga Classic Sunday at Council Fire Golf Club.

CHATTANOOGA---Day one of the Chattanooga Classic is in the books. A chilly morning gave way to a gorgeous afternoon with the host Chattanooga Mocs shooting 295. That sits in a tie for fifth with Campbell at 11 over.
ETSU has the early lead. The Bucs teed off with the opening groups and posted 6-over 290. They saw the leaderboard drift below with Western Kentucky in second at 291. One Kashima from North Florida is the individual leader at 67 (-4).
Violeta Fernandez-Tagle led the home squad with level-par 71. She is tied for seventh. Giulia Foresta and Kera Healey both posted 74, while Nieves Martin completed the counting cards with 76. Makenzie Cooper had the drop tally of 78.
Alexis Daniel had the low Mocs round playing as an individual. She topped Fernandez-Tagle by one with 1-under 70. That puts her in a tie for third. Imogen Rafferty posted 74 with a 75 coming from Carmen Belmonte.
"Everyone fought hard today," Coach Colette Murray said. "We made some errors that as the home team, you probably shouldn't make. We are a young team, so we just need to be patient. We're what five back? I'm feeling pretty good because I know the girls believe they left a lot out there today."
The field returns to the tee Monday morning at 8 a.m. There are 30 groups slated to start on No. 1 in 10-minute intervals with the Mocs featured between 11:20 a.m.-Noon. Live scoring and tee times are linked above.
