Postgame Quotes - Western Carolina

2023-24 Chattanooga Mocs Men's Basketball
Game 31 – Western Carolina
March 2 – McKenzie Arena – Chattanooga, Tenn.
Postgame Notes

Dan Earl, Head Coach
Overall thoughts after 82-63 loss to Western Carolina.
"That was disappointing, obviously. That was as poorly as we could play in the first half. We did not put it together as a team. It was disappointing. It's tough on Senior Night, too. That first half, that was as embarrassed as I've been this year. With that said, I was proud of the guys for turning the page in the second half although the result wasn't what we wanted. We're going to rip up this stat sheet and move on to the Southern Conference Tournament. I was just disappointed in the way we attacked that first half."

On dealing with the absence of guards Trey Bonham & Myles Che.
"It changes a lot. A lot of guys are in different positions. But that wasn't our mindset going into the game. I couldn't even tell you what planet we were on. What was disappointing was the first four minutes. It was like, "what are we doing?". It certainly changes things not having those two, but it's no excuse the way we performed in the first half. Not necessarily the results, but the way we performed."

On the second-half effort to close the gap.
"I think we had a good shot when it was down to six and then had a tough time getting stops. It was night and day in the first half and the second half. I appreciate the crowd a ton. They were loud, they stuck with us. We had some big offensive rebounds and tough efforts to make it a real game. We just had trouble finishing and then getting stops late in the second half."

Honor Huff, So.-G
On the game's slow start.
"I'm trying to calm everyone down, there's a lot of emotions on senior night. For some of them, it's their last home game, last couple college games, and I think the emotions might have taken over early in the game. It wasn't a great start at all, and it really hindered us."

On moving to primary ball handler with limited lineup.
"I wasn't as aggressive as maybe I should have been. I saw some of my teammates force it a little bit, and I'm the one supposed to calm those things down. I try to play within the game and get others involved in these situations. I might have played down today, and it was good and bad, I just think I could have created more for others. Trey [Bonham] is really good at that, so I just tried to get control of the offense as best as I could."
