On the latest episode of Mocs on the Mic, host Chris Goforth talks with women's basketball head coach Deandra Schirmer. She is the eighth head coach in UTC women's basketball 50-year history. She comes to UTC after finding vast success at Valdosta State.

In her five-year stint at the head of VSU women's basketball team, Schirmer helped lead the Lady Blazers to an impressive 114-31 record (.786) and 86-19 mark (.819) in the Gulf South Conference.

Schirmer also helped Valdosta State punch its ticket into each of the last four NCAA Division II Tournaments, with her team making an Elite Eight run in 2022. Her Lady Blazers also won the Gulf South Conference in 2021 and 2024, with Schirmer coaching three Division II All-Americans during her run in Title Town.

Prior to her coaching days, Schirmer played a total of four years of college basketball split between USC Aiken (2009-11) and Cloud County Community College (2007-09). While playing at USCA, Schirmer would help the Pacers to a two-year record of 42-19 including going 26-10 in the Peach Belt Conference and winning the PBC regular season title in 2011.

A native to Holton, Kansas, Schirmer was a prep standout in a multitude of sports including being an all-state honoree in both basketball and volleyball. Schirmer would also be recognized with the prestigious honor of being named a Naismith Award winner for her various athletic endeavors all throughout high school.
