Women's Basketball Lands Four on CSC Academic All-District Team

GREENWOOD, Ind. -  Caia Elisaldez, Falon Bedke, Gianna Corbitt, and Ava Card, were each named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team on Tuesday afternoon. This award recognizes student-athletes across the country who excel in the classroom and on the court. UTC's four players to make the list, are earning this recognition for the first time in their careers. It's also the first time that Chattanooga has had four players win this award in the same season, which is the maximum number of players that schools are allowed to nominate.

To earn this award, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically, while holding a minimum 3.50 cumulative GPA. Additionally, student-athletes must compete in 90% of their team's games or start in at least 66% of those games.

Elisaldez, a Psychology major, adds Academic All-District honors to her resume after previously being named to the Dean's List, AD's Honor Roll, SoCon Honor Roll, Academic All-SoCon, and winning the SoCon Commsioner's Medal. She currently holds a 3.55 cumulative GPA, and most recently held a perfect 4.0 GPA for the fall semester. On the court, Elisaldez led the SoCon in scoring at 17 points per game, and assists per game at 5.1. This led her to win SoCon Player of the Year, becoming the first Moc since 2014 to do so. In Chattanooga's WBIT First Round game at North Dakota State, she scored 33 points, the most by a Moc in a National Tournament game.

Bedke, a finance major, who transferred in from Southern Idaho adds Academic All-District honors, after excelling in the classroom since getting to campus. In the fall semester, she held a 4.0 GPA, earning her spot on the Dean's List and AD's Honor Roll. Her overall GPA stands at an impressive 3.97. Additionally, during her time at Southern Idaho, Bedke earned NJCAA First Team All-Academic and CSI President's List honors two years in a row. On the court, Bedke started 30 of the 31 games she played in, and was one of Chattanooga's key defensive players. Her most notable offensive display, came at UNCG on 1/22 where she scored 10 points, tying a team high, in a Mocs win.

Corbitt, who is studying Sport, Outdoor, Recreation and Tourism Management, picks up Academic All-District honors, adding to a cabinet that already holds Dean's List, AD's Honor Roll, and SoCon Honor Roll awards in it. The Oakland Park, Florida native holds a 3.73 cumulative GPA, which includes a perfect 4.0 GPA in the fall of this school year. Moving to basketball, Corbitt ranked second in the SoCon in scoring at 15.2 points per game and rebounding at 8.4 rebounds per game. She was named First Team All-SoCon and tabbed to the All-SoCon Defensive Team. Corbitt scored 30 points in two games this season and recorded six double-doubles.

Card, who is also in the Sport, Outdoor, Recreation, and Tourism management program, earns Academic All-District distinction, after earning several other academic awards during her two years. These include the Dean's List, AD's Honor Roll, SoCon Honor Roll, and SoCon Commissioner's Medal. There have been two semesters where she held a perfect 4.0 GPA, including last fall. Her cumulative GPA stands strong at 3.94. Card played in all 31 games, making 20 starts for the Mocs, averaging 6.4 points per game, and 4.7 rebounds per game. She scored in double figures in seven games, including 17 points in a conference game against ETSU.

Elisaldez, Bedke, Corbitt, and Card, now have the opportunity to be selected to the CSC Academic All-America Team. Voting will be conducted by Sports Information Directors across the country, with results revealed on April 15.
