Women’s Basketball Reveals 2024-25 Non-Conference Schedule

13 non-conference contests await the Mocs this fall, beginning with Shorter University on November 4.

CHATTANOOGA --- Chattanooga women's basketball has released its official non-conference schedule ahead of the 2024-25 season, head coach Deandra Schirmer announced on Friday.

The first season of the Schirmer Era for the Mocs will officially kick off on November 4 in McKenzie Arena, marking the first of a 13-game non-conference slate for UTC to open the 2024-25 season.

"We have a very challenging non-conference schedule that we feel will be a good test to prepare us for the conference season," Coach Schirmer said. "Playing powerhouse teams like Nebraska and Mississippi State on the road will be important challenges for this team to face at the start of the season."

"We will be traveling to Florida for some holiday tournaments that will give us four great destination games that our fans and family can hopefully attend. They can enjoy the sunshine as well as some very high-level basketball games."

The schedule includes a wide variety of opponents for Chattanooga to go toe-to-toe with, ranging from Division II programs like Shorter and King University to Power Four foes like Mississippi State and Nebraska. UTC will also be in attendance for a pair of Florida-based holiday tournaments, first going to the FGCU Homewood Suites Classic and later attending the West Palm Beach Classic.

The Mocs are coming off a 2023-24 season in which they finished 15-4 in non-conference play before closing out the year 28-5 overall with Southern Conference regular season and tournament wins.

The combined record of Chattanooga's 2024-25 non-conference D1 opponents sat at 172-116 (.597) a season ago, setting the Mocs up for a competitive start to the new season. Four of UTC's opponents this season appeared in postseason play a year ago, with FGCU and Nebraska having been NCAA Tournament teams, Troy appearing in the WNIT and Mississippi State being in the WBIT.

Chattanooga's first two games of 2024-25 will come right here in the Scenic City with the Mocs playing host to Shorter University on November 4 before taking on Tennessee Tech on November 7. The Mocs then hit the road for the first time of the season to head to Durham, North Carolina, for a November 11 bout with NC Central.

The Mocs will then return home for a one-off matchup against Troy on November 14, before hitting the road once more to take on SEC foe Mississippi State in Starkville on November 17. UTC returns to the Roundhouse for another brief homestand where they will host King University (November 20) and Lipscomb (November 25).

This sets the Mocs up for their first non-conference tournament of the season, with UTC traveling to Fort Myers, Florida, for the annual FGCU Homewood Suites Classic. Running November 29-30, the Mocs are slated to take on Penn and tournament host FGCU.

After nipping back home for one last non-conference home game against Kennesaw State on December 8, the Mocs will head north with Chattanooga set to square off with a fellow 2024 NCAA Tournament squad in Nebraska on December 15.

The Mocs close out their non-conference schedule December 20-21 at the West Palm Beach Classic hosted by Coast 2 Coast, where UTC will play in two games while in the Sunshine State. Those two opponents have yet to be announced.

"We will have some challenging home games that we look forward to competing hard in for our home crowd," Schirmer continued. "All in all, this non-conference schedule is shaping up to be a gauntlet of good games that we are excited to compete in."

Following their 13-game non-conference slate, the Mocs will have a sizable Christmas break before returning to the hardwood in January for their Southern Conference opener.
