CHATTANOOGA---The Chattanooga Mocs hit the road this week heading to No. 23 ETSU Saturday in Johnson City, Tenn. The contest is the first of seven straight Southern Conference contests
Â
The Mocs are 1-3, 0-1 in league play after Saturday's 45-30 win over Portland State. The Bucs, 3-2 overall and 1-0 in the SoCon, moved into the Stats Perform Top 25 this week after going on the road for a 34-17 triumph at The Citadel.
Â
The win over the Vikings was a positive step for the Mocs posting season highs across the board offensively. Quarterback
Chase Artopoeus posted the ninth most passing yards in a game Saturday night with 396 against Portland State. His 403 yards total offense ranks as ninth best as well in that category. He added four TD passes marking his second career game with four or more.
Â
Wide receiver
Javin Whatley had season highs with eight catches, 108 yards and three touchdowns. It was the 12th time a Moc had three or more TD catches in a game with Whatley joining Cos DeMatteo (1998-01) & Joe Burke (1977-80) as the only Mocs with two such games in school history.
Â
Fellow wideout
Sam Phillips had another 100-yard game with 150 on five catches. He now has 480 yards on 24 receptions becoming third Moc this century to record 450+ yards in the first four games of the season along with Bryce Nunnelly (654-2018) and Joel Bradford (506-2010).
Â
Running back
Reggie Davis recorded his first 100-yard collegiate contest with 116 yards on 22 carries with a TD. His 24-yard rush on the score was his longest carry of this season.
Â
"It was a good effort from our guys," Coach
Rusty Wright said. "We did what we talked about last week. We found a way to win a game. Now it's time to do it again."
Â
The devastation of Hurricane Helene in northeast Tennessee has the two rivals teaming up this weekend. The counties of Carter, Cocke, Greene, Hamblen, Johnson and Unicoi were among the hardest hit by the storm. The Bucs athletics department is taking donation in their Food City Fan Zone and at the entry gates this Saturday.
