CHATTANOOGA---Former Chattanooga Mocs offensive lineman
Reid Williams is a 2024 College Sports Communicators Academic All-American the organization announced Tuesday. Williams is the fourth Mocs football player to be honored. It is the sixth time it has occurred. Williams was named to the second team.
Defensive end Davis Tull '14 was the first. He made the first team in 2013 and 2014 as he built his resume as the most dominant defensive end in Southern Conference history setting a new league mark in career sacks with 37.0 which was later surpassed by UTC defensive tackle Devonnsha Maxwell '22 who recorded 37.5 from the interior.

Tull was followed the next two seasons by running back Derrick Craine '16. The "Craine Train" was a second team pick in 2015 before rising to first team status in 2016. Wide Receiver Bryce Nunnelly '20 was the most recent selection making the second team in 2019.

Williams is one of two Southern Conference honorees joined by Mercer offensive lineman Riley Adcock. The duo are two of 16 total from the FCS on the 53-person DI squad. Williams is one of two from Tennessee-based institutions joined by Julian Ashby (ST-Vanderbilt) on the complete list consisting of NCAA DI, DII & DIII as well as NAIA.

He was a 4.0 student working on his MBA in the fall. Williams, a native of Ringgold, Ga., graduated as a Latin Honors Candidate in the spring of 2024 with a degree in Engineering Technology Management finishing his undergrad work with a 3.97 GPA.

The academic requirement for the award is a minimum 3.5 GPA. The nominee must be at least as a sophomore academically and athletically while competing in 90 percent of their team's contests OR starting two-thirds.
