POSTGAME QUOTES
Dan Earl, Head Coach
Thoughts after 81-68 win at The Citadel.
"We knew Citadel is always a hard playing group and they do a really good job of driving it downhill with multiple guys in particular Brody Fox. They are also scary from three because they shoot a lot of them, and they have capable guys. So, on the whole, I thought that we did a pretty decent job defensively other than defending Fox, but he's so good at creating a lot of contact. We withstood their run a little bit, you know, I would love to have taken that game from a 19-point lead or whatever it was, and that stretched it out to 25 or so, obviously. We withstood that run and made enough plays down the stretch to be able to get a win on the road, which is never easy."
Â
"I think we had 12 assists and one turnover in the first half, which is obviously really good. Now, we gave up eight offensive rebounds in the first half, so we talked to them about getting a body on guys. We talked about not allowing offensive rebounds, but most importantly, keep taking care of the ball. And we did a better job on the boards in the second half. They only had one offensive rebound in the half, which we did a great job of getting a hand up and grabbing the ball with two hands."
Â
Bash Wieland, Sr.-G
On effort to keep the lead during the second half.
"I mean, the second half, I'm pretty sure it was the 16- or 12-minute mark where we just kind of stumbled there, and I think they cut it to eight or so. That was where we really had to make a stand, and I thought we shared the ball throughout the game really, really well."
Â
On defensive assignment against The Citadel's star Brody Fox.
"He's a really good player, and he's a very aggressive downhill driver, so yeah, it definitely was frustrating sometimes. When you have to go against a dude like that who goes full speed at you, and you feel like you had your hand straight up, and they still call the foul, that's very frustrating, but I mean, that's what he does. He's really good at that and really good player."
