POSTGAME QUOTES
Dan Earl, Head Coach
Thoughts after 78-75 loss to UNCG.
"Obviously a very tough game, tough ending. It doesn't take much to really figure out who can score the ball for them. The number one goal coming in was to stop their big three… and they scored 70 of their 78 points. Three guys. Not to take anything away from those guys, they shot the ball phenomenally, it's just hard to imagine we can't make it more difficult for them. They just did things over and over again. We have to be better at a lot of things. Nothing worked. We have to figure out how to be better and tougher defensively. I thought we fought and played hard, but we have to be tougher."
Â
On defensive effort and concern level.
"Yes. And even more concerned right now. We have to get guys playing tougher, harder, and communicating more. We have to figure out what to do and it's very concerning to be honest. Whether we have to jump things up more, hold guys more accountable, we try a lot of those things obviously, something has to work. We can't allow them to get shots off like that and we have to be better on that side."
Â
On little things adding up.
"We talked to them about execution at the end of the game, but I'm not sure we understand how much it matters when it's the first few minutes and we allow a ball screen layup. It has an effect on the outcome of the game. All the little mistakes throughout matter. Yes, we have to execute down the stretch and not let emotions get the best of us. We played well offensively, moved the ball, got looks, shot the ball well. We have to execute defensively."
Â
Bash Wieland, G-Sr.
On tonight's difference.
"Coach touched on it, but it's our defense. It wasn't great. Our game plan was to take those three guys away and we did the exact opposite. That's extremely hard to overcome."
Â
On moving forward with quick turnaround.
"Obviously we want to turn the page rather quickly. We just need to get back in the gym tomorrow and get better at things that helps you win games."
