Soccer Closes Out Regular Season at Western Carolina Sunday

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The Chattanooga women's soccer team closes out the regular season Sunday afternoon at Western Carolina. The Mocs, fourth in the Southern Conference standings, are up against the second place Catamounts.

MOCS vs. CATAMOUNTS
Chattanooga trails the series 9-15-3 with all but one played in the regular season. UTC is 6-4 over the last 10 meetings with Western Carolina claiming four of the last five.

The Catamounts swept the Mocs last season winning 1-0 in the regular season and follwoing that with a 2-0 victory in SoCon Tournament semifinal round in Cullowhee.
 
Chattanooga outshot top-seeded Western Carolina 11-9 but fell 2-0 in the semifinal round of the Southern Conference Championship on the Catamounts campus Sunday afternoon. Western Carolina moves on to face No. 2 Samford in Cullowhee, N.C., next Sunday afternoon in the SoCon Championship game. Naya Marcil and Milla Syska each scored for Western Carolina. Marcil, assisted by Alexis DeMarco, put the Cats on the board in the 17th minute, but the Mocs defense held over the next 65 minutes. UTC kept Western Carolina at bay until Syska, assisted by Isabella DeMarco, put the game a bit more out of reach. UTC's Caroline Richvalsky, with a game-high four shots, had her second shot on goal in the final minutes. Carmya Mastrangelo and EG Dillard each had two shots in the match with one on goal apiece, but the Catamount defense held off Chattanooga's attack. Chattanooga bid farewell to six seniors. Sylvie Keck, Ella Roth and Kelly Tuerff spent all four years with the Mocs while Brenna Swiger, Taylor Morris and Hannah Morton all joined Chattanooga this season as graduate transfers.
 
ABOUT THE MOCS (9-4-4, 3-2-3 SoCon)
Chattanooga leads the SoCon with 35 goals scored, allowing opponents just 20. The Mocs have six clean sheets this season, fourth best in the league and a 1.18 goals against average. Caroline Ekern is fourth in the NCAA for goalie minutes played, having logged all 1530 for UTC. She picked up her 32nd career victory against VMI and her 20th career clean sheet, both program records.
 
Caroline Richvalsky is third in the SoCon with 24 points on eight goals and eight assists. Paige Thomas is second for UTC with 18 points on eight goals and two assists. Freshman Quinn Johnson scored all five of her goals in the last five matches including a brace against VMI. She was named to the Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week as well as the SoCon Player of the Week.
 
ABOUT WESTERN CAROLINA (9-4-4, 5-1-2 SoCon)
The Catamounts have league wins over Mercer, VMI, The Citadel, Wofford, and UNCG after starting the season with a 2-2 draw against league-leading Samford. The Cats also have a scoreless draw against third place ETSU. WCU has 33 goals this season and allowed just 17 while recording eight clean sheets. Leanne Trudel has all nine wins and a 1.00 goals against average. Isabella DeMarco is second in the SoCon for points with 25 scoring 10 goals and five assists. Milla Syska is second on the team with 13 points on three goals and a team-best seven assists.
