Rusty Wright, head coach
Opening statement after 21-14 victory at VMI.
"It was good because it wasn't like it was one guy. We had guys all over the field today. For a 21-14 game, it had a bunch of ups and downs. I'm happy for our players and coaches to get this done on this long trip. I thought we were ready to play and played well out of the gate. It was great to just see so many guys contribute today. We can get so much better, too. Just super proud of these kids for going out there and playing."
Â
On matching up with VMI.
"The way they are schematically, and what we did offensively, it was hard. They have an extra guy in the box and it puts some strain on us to do some extra stuff. Having Ryan [Ingram] back was huge. We just ran the ball hard today. We really aren't just "there" yet. But, they [VMI] don't let you do some things."
Â
On the key 99-yard drive before half.
"That was the big for us. We blocked things up front, got some hats on hats on the backend, and we just took care of it. It was the biggest point in the game. We had to create some things to make it work for us right now, and it's hard on our staff and players to do that. Nobody flinched, nobody panicked. It was great to see what this group can do."
Â
Justus Durant-RB, Sr.
On today's rushing performance.
"Last week, we rushed well, but the offensive line, man, they really worked this week. We moved the ball so well today. We laid it all out on the line and we knew what we had to do. We accomplished that."
Â
On the play from the offensive line.
"They played a great game. What a beautiful performance. We have so many different guys out there playing well. It was great to see and helps us on offense."
Â
Kaelin Drakeford, DB-Sr.
On coming out prepared today.
"All week, and this season, we've been focused on our eyes and our discipline. I thought we really excelled at that today. It's been a week full of great work."
Â
On pushing through adversity.
"We have a next play mentality, so no matter what happens, you just have to play the next play. We wanted to get that sour taste out of our mouth, and we know we're better than that. It was great to do what we wanted to do today."
Â
Jamarr Jones, DT-Jr.
On bouncing back from last week.
"That was a disappointment, for sure. But this whole week, we just wanted to come back and play hard. It was great to come out and do that. It's what we set out to do all week."
Â
On the defensive effort today.
"This defense, we made some huge strides this week. It's the mental side of things and not having to reload plays. We really tied things together today."
