Volleyball Suffers 3-0 Sweep at Samford on Wednesday

The Chattanooga Mocs volleyball team dropped its fourth-straight match after suffering a sweep against the Bulldogs.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (November 5, 2025) — The Chattanooga Mocs volleyball team suffered its fourth-straight defeat within Southern Conference play following a 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-21) loss on the road at Samford inside the Pete Hanna Center in Birmingham, Ala., on Wednesday evening.
 
Following the loss, Chattanooga drops to 13-12 overall and 7-6 in SoCon action. Samford improves to 10-14 overall and 5-8 within the league after the victory. The Mocs sit in fifth place in the SoCon standings after the defeat with three matches, all at home, left on the regular season slate.

Set 1 – Samford 25, Chattanooga 19
  • The opening set was a true back-and-forth affair with the team's combining for seven ties within the first 20 points as they remained locked at 10-10.
  • Chattanooga took a 13-11 lead following kills from Gracie Rose and Jordin Glass before Samford responded with a 7-0 scoring run to take an 18-13 edge.
  • The closest the Mocs pulled within the Bulldogs was three, 22-19, as the hosts clinched the opening frame 25-19 following three unanswered points.
 
Set 2 – Samford 25, Chattanooga 18
  • Samford and Chattanooga exchanged the first 12 points of the set to build a 6-6 tie before the home team used a 6-2 scoring run to help create a 12-8 advantage.
  • Another Glass kill brought the Mocs within three, 14-11, but that difference would mark the closest UTC could climb over the rest of the set.
  • Samford closed the set and gained a 2-0 lead in the match with a 4-1 scoring run that feature three kills and a Mocs attacking error.
 
Set 3 – Samford 25, Chattanooga 21
  • Samford carried a slight 6-4 lead after the set's first 10 rallies before consecutive kills from Rose pulled UTC into a 9-9 tie.
  • The Bulldogs responded with the next four points to amass a 13-9 lead before ultimately grabbing a 15-12 edge at the media timeout.
  • After falling behind 21-16 as the set came down the stretch, Chattanooga's attack led by Kynli Kirkendoll helped put the guests on a 5-1 run which allowed for just a one-point Samford lead, 22-21. The Bulldogs responded with a 3-0 scoring run to claim the set 25-21 and complete the 3-0 sweep.
