Coach Dan Earl, 4th Season
Opening Statement
"I thought it was a good effort overall. Particularly, we got off to a better start today. We haven't gotten off to great starts in a variety of games, and it was good to see some guys make shots and put the ball through the hoop. Brennan (Watkins) being one...
Jordan Frison I thought, played well and it was nice for
Ryan Lopez to make some shots down the stretch as well, Overall, it was good to get multiple guys in the game, and I thought we were pretty sharp on both ends for the most part."
Â
On what he wants to see in his team as the non-conference schedule is coming to an end to prepare for the start of the SoCon title defense:
"Think the biggest thing is the defensive side of the ball. Our communication has to be greater, louder. We're constantly on our guys about talking. I also think it's in our physicality with both the defensive side of the ball, one-on-one, but also being in the gaps playing five guys against the ball and rebounding the ball as well."
Â
Looking ahead to Auburn on Saturday:
"It's really exciting to go against such a high-level opponent. I just want to see us - and I know this sounds like the politically correct answer - but just continue our growth. Communicating on the defensive end in particular. Being sharp on the offensive end. Taking care of the basketball. Continuing to share the ball and taking the good and the right looks on offense and then competing defensively. All those things that will help us long term. We're certainly playing to win that game, but it's just another step for us to get better as a program."
Â
Brennan Watkins, Sr.-G
On where the team is at this point in the first semester:
"I think this team has a lot of confidence, but I think this was really a confidence booster. A lot of us, we have confidence in ourselves, but we just haven't been knocking down shots. We're getting the right opportunities, and the coaches are putting us in the right places, so it's nice to see the ball go through the hoop tonight. Hopefully that brings us confidence and energy towards the next steps."
Â
On what he thinks this team needs to do moving forward:
"We have all the belief and confidence in our coaches, and we just need to buy into what they're saying. Once we fully commit to that, I think anything's possible. I think that's just the biggest thing for us is just fully committing listening to everything they say."
Â
On what he's learned over the first month-and-a-half of the season:
"I think the biggest thing is just to stay positive and keep your head up. Obviously things haven't gone as planned, but another game is right around the corner, and we can't dwell in the past."
